    Background

    When I was asked to present a workshop on "Fostering Creativity through Musical Play" for my local ECMMA chapter I quickly responded "I'd love to!" and felt excited by the topic. But when it came time to prepare for the workshop I found myself feeling overwhelmed. What does it mean to be "creative?" How am I creative in my classroom? How do I foster creativity in my students while providing them with the basic skills necessary to fully engage in music making as they develop? How are other music educators creative in their approaches?
