    Learning to cooperate with others is fundamental to human development and socialization. Inter-personal cooperation, or synchrony, is “the temporal aligning of action between two or more interacting individuals,” and evidence suggests that “being in synchrony appears to have an impact that extends beyond the synchronous interaction itself” (p. 1). Individuals interacting synchronously tend to experience a sense of likeness and commonality with each other. Moving to music, singing, or playing instruments involves a certain amount of synchrony between the interacting individuals. For children, learning to interact cooperatively and in synchrony with others through music or other activities is essential for their intra- and interpersonal development.
