    When faced with meeting the educational, social, and cultural needs of students in pluricultural classrooms, educators may be inclined to rely on strategies that focus “on communication, cooperation and student participation” rather than concentrate on instructional objectives appropriate for their students’ education and overall development. In response to this dilemma, Bernabé Villodre references the constructs of intercultural education, whereby

    cultural identity is not lost but rather reconstructed as a shared experience. In other words, students understand their culture of origin as well as that of the other while becoming a point of shared cultural reconstruction: your culture and my culture become a new culture belonging to us both. (236)
