    This longitudinal study examined the effect of formal musical training on the language development of 213 three- and four-year-olds enrolled in a Head Start Program in Puerto Rico. Children in the Experimental Group (n = 80) received formal music education classes for two consecutive years at least three times a week for 20 min., while children in the Control Group (n = 133) did not participate in the music education classes. Using the Children Observation Record (COR) (HighScope Educational Research Foundation, 2003), the researchers collected data for the children’s developmental skills in six domains: initiative, social relations, creative representation, music and movement, language, and logical thinking.
