Through research, we have a growing understanding of the musical capabilities of infants – particularly their musical preferences and perceptive abilities. For example, we have studies which indicate that infants prefer a capella (Ilari & Sundara, 2009) and infant-directed (Longhi, 2009; Trainor, 1996; Trehub, 2003) singing.
