    In a workshop about current research in the field, Dr. Joyce Jordan-DeCarbo and Dr. Joy Galliford, researchers at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, presented results of a study conducted in 2005-06 that showed what effect a music program could have on preschoolers’ test scores in linguistic skills, nonlinguistic skills, and motor skills. The study also looked at parent involvement with their children’s learning, and the ability of preschool teachers to deliver the curriculum. The three goals of the study were to

    1. implement an age-appropriate music program into the school’s curriculum for children aged three to five
    2. train non-music preschool teachers to deliver the music curriculum
    3. involve the children’s parents, through home activities that reinforced the concepts in the music curriculum
